| When students really get into the spirit of an activity, they lose
the fear which keeps them back in other situations. Making the transition
from informal math to formal math can be difficult at times. Informal
math does not necessarily have the correct math vernacular and appropriate
names of symbols but the student may understand the math process. Formal
math, however, does involve rich mathematical vernacular and standard
universal symbols which one is expected to be aware ofi to hold math conversations
with others. Shown within this particular clip is a transition between
informal and formal math. Not all transitions are carried out smoothly
and this one was about 7.5 on a 10-point scale (10 being the highest one
could score) but I would give it a 10 for humor. |
