Going beyond
Once the two days of the concert had been charted, I wanted to pose to students how to use the data. Knowing they would automatically figure out the total sale of each color-size combination, the question then became what to do with this information. Some suggestions were made. Why not think about the concert as it travels from city to city? Once we see how T-shirts sell in other major cities, can we estimate on average how many size-color combinations we should order? Once again, math goes back to risk taking and inquiry. I had to find ways to stretch the imagination. Some of the students could take that extra push and generalize about other factors that impact T-shirt sales.
